Congratulations to Jamie Bond who has been selected to play for Great Britain in the under 17 European championships qualification tournament that will take place in Maribor in Slovenia at the end of June. Final selections were made after a very busy week over half term training at the Walsall gala baths.
Matty Smith and Owen Street have also been part of the squad that has been working hard at various training camps in the past few weeks but they have both been unlucky to miss out on selection for the final team that will play in Slovenia.
Jamie faces a busy schedule of games and the GB boys will need to finish in top two to qualify for the finals which are scheduled for Malta in September.
The full program in Maribor is as follows; –
Thursday 24th June 17.30 GB vs Romania
Friday 25th June 09.00 GB vs Austria
Friday 25th June 17.30 GB vs Russia
Saturday 26th June 19.00 vs Slovenia
As you can probably imagine, travel to and from Slovenia and playing in this type of competition in current situation will bring many challenges, but I am sure that Jamie will be looking forward to the opportunity.
Caitlin Silk and Maddie Calthrop are also part of the recently reduced GB girls squad that is working towards the under 17 European Championships that will take place in Sibinek in Croatia also in September. The GB girls do not need to qualify for the finals but the squad is working hard towards the tournament and the final selection will be made in the coming weeks.
The girls were also involved in a tough weeks training over half term which took place at Pond Forge in Sheffield.
