The final round of matches of the current London league campaign would see our young team face a busy three match schedule with matches against Barnet, Penguin Hillingdon and Croydon.
Our squad of twelve boys and girls only included three players born in 2005 and so we were using this competition very much as a development opportunity and all of the team will benefit from this match practice.
The individual match reports are as follows; –
Worthing 12, Barnet 3 (Half time 8-2)
This was a dominant display against a Barnet team that really struggled to come to terms with our press defence that regularly gained us possession and led to many counter-attack goals.
We actually conceded a couple of really poor goals but our attack was always creating chances and eventually we ran out comfortable winners.
Scorers; – Henry 7, Archie 2, Lillie 1, Ethan L 1 & Ruby 1.
Exclusion; – Florence
Worthing 10, Penguin Hillingdon 4 (Half time 6-3)
Another satisfactory win against a better standard of opposition and we played relatively well for long periods. Once again we were guilty of conceding a couple of poor goals but we always looked in control and the final score was a reasonable reflection of the difference between the teams.
Scorers; – Owen 3, Henry 2, Lillie 2, Luke 2, Ruby 1.
Exclusions; – Henry, Lillie.
Worthing 2, Croydon 8 (Half time 1-4)
This was always going to a be tough game against a very good Croydon team, but the final score really doesn’t give a fair reflection of the way that the team played. We contrived to miss a number of opportunities when we really should have scored and we were also guilty of some poor defending that resulted in a number of the goals that we conceded.
We didn’t do enough to win the match, but all of the squad realised that to be competitive in this type of game we have to reduce the number of unforced errors.
Scores; – Luke 1, Henry 1.
Exclusions; – Ruby 2, Owen.
Squad in full; – Felix Monaghan (GK), Ruby Rosser, Florence Rosser, Mia Sukumaran, Owen Halligan, Henry Broadhurst, Archie Moon, Luke Heaton, Joe Boot, Ethan Foxwell, Lillie Standen, Ethan Lecuyer.
Overall, two wins and a defeat to a quality opposition was a decent return on the day. This is a very promising squad of young players all who have great potential to improve if they continue to work hard.
